Membership

The Honor Legion of the Fire Department of the City of New York consists of Active Members and Honorary Members.  To qualify as an Active Member, the Firefighter must have been cited by the Board of Merit for having performed deeds of valor at imminent risk of life or who have commended for meritorious acts of personal bravery.  Said members have been awarded a Class I, Class II or   Class III entitling them to wear the prescribed insignia.  Honorary Membership may be conferred upon a Member of the FDNY or a Civilian who is of good moral character and who, in serving the FDNY and/or the Honor Legion has merited and proven him or herself worthy of the gratitude and recognition of these two organizations.
